Oral Delivery of Insulin by Functionalized Nanoparticles through Overcoming Multiple Barriers

　　For effective oral delivery of protein drugs via nanoparticulate system, the capability of penetrating the mucus layer and entering epithelial cells are both required.Our group recently prepared a zwitterions coated polylactic acid (PLA) NP, and demonstrated its excellent mucus permeability and satisfactory cellular uptake efficiency.The developed NPs loaded with insulin could induce a prominent hypoglycemic response in diabetic rats following oral administration.
