Design of Microneedles using Additive Manufacturing
The aims of this study were to examine the feasibility of additive manufacturing for design of microneedle arrays and to evaluate the fabricated microneedle arrays.Arrays of microneedle design were created using computer aided design (CAD)software (Rhinoceros 5.0) and materialized by direct light processing (DLP) three dimensional printing (3DP) system.Three different slicing thickness (15,25, 40 micron) were used for manufacturing microneedles, and morphology, surface property and size of microneedles were evaluated by using digital microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Various shape of microneedles with a height of 600 micron were fabricated, and hollow type microneedles with a minimum wall thickness of 100 micron can be produced using DLP system. These results highlight the possibility of 3DP systems for microneedles manufacturing.
