Formulation and Evaluation of Microemulsions Containing BSA as a Model Antigen

Stable microemulsion adjuvant containing vegetable oil, nonionic surfactants and/or cationic surfactant has been developed and sterilized by autoclaving.Protein integrity study demonstrated that microemulsion compositions had no any influence on both primary and secondary structures. Moreover, in vitro cellular uptake study on human monocyte /macrophage cell line showed that the uptake of FITC-BSA-loaded microemulsions significantly increased (p-value < 0.05) when compared with those in PBS and AddaVaxTM.Based on these preliminary results, it was concluded that the prepared microemulsion formulations could be used as novel adjuvants for various vaccines.
