Effects of Natural Polyols in Polyurethane Foam Dressings on their Physico-Mechanical Properties
High water absorption capacity, moisture maintenance, air permeability and flexibility are properties required for polyurethane foam dressing. In this study, two natural polyols (Starch 1500 and sodium CMC) were added to foam preparation.Physico-mechanical characterization revealed that these natural polyols increased water absorption and decreased hydration properties of foam formulation.Their tensile strength and %elongation were higher than those without natural polyols. The foam containing sodium CMC has shown to be good alternative to improve polyurethane foam characteristics due to high absorption rate, low dehydration rate, and good compressive profiles.
