Emulsion-based Encapsulation and Delivery Systems using Pectin:Fabrication, Characterization and Application
Use of encapsulated oils/drugs instead of free molecules improves both the stability and bioavailability of the molecules in vitro and in vivo. Many emulsion-based delivery systems for oils/drugs have been well established, including conventional, multilayer and nanoemulsions. However, variations in composition and preparation technologies result in the formation of a range of emulsions of new properties with great potential in delivery of oils or drug molecules. This paper provides an overview of selected approaches that can be used to create emulsion-based delivery systems based on pectin biopolymer. The fabrication, characterization, and application of emulsion-based encapsulation and delivery systems are discussed.
