SynB3-functionalized Nanodiamond for the Enhanced Brain Delivery of Endomorphin-1

  Use of nanodiamonds is a promising strategy for overcoming the blood-brain barrier and delivering drugs to the brain.In this study, the therapeutic endomorphin-1, an endogenous μ-opioid but unable to penetrate blood-brain barrier, was conjugated to the surface of SynB3-functionalized nanodiamonds by physical adsorption and chemical connection in order to premature release and improve its pharmacological effect.The results showed that cell penetrating peptides functionalized nanodiamonds strategies could enhance brain uptake of endomorphin-1 and more importantly, the two methods are different on the release of the drug due to the different connection.
