Effects of statin-loaded fibrous mats on eNOS/NO and angiogenesis during diabetic skin wound healing
Statin-loaded polymeric fibrous mats were prepared by electrospinning and applied in the culture of vascular endothelial cells in high-glucose condition and in the rat model of diabetic skin ulcer. Results show that the statin-loaded mats relieved the high-glucose induced decrease in cell viability and promoted nitric oxide (NO) synthesis, in vitro. In a rat model of diabetes, the statin-loaded mats promoted endothelial nitrix oxide (eNOS) expression and NO synthesis in/around the regenerated tissues, accelerated vascularization, elevated blood supply, and promoted the skin wound healing.
