Meta-cognitive Activities by Using KWL chart in Inquiry Learning
The purpose of this research is to clarify effect in inquiry learning and metacognitive activity by the strategy of promoting metacognition with using KWL chart.The Ministry of Education,Culture,Sports,Science and Technology in japan(MEXT)mention a need to raise abilities of solving a problem better through integrated and inquiry learning.Metacognition is important to promote abilities of solving a problem.However,measuring metacognition is difficult.The author defines metacognition as knowledge and abilities of monitoring and control.In this research,teachers set strategies of promoting metacognition by using KWL chart with two classes of fifth grades primary school students.Writing KWL chart makes learners write 1)what I Know,and 2)what I Want to know,3)what I Learned.Therefore,KWL chart give a learner the term of monitoring and control.The author analyzes KWL chart and planning sheet,reflection sheet.Furthermore,the author will interview students with KWL chart and planning sheet.The author will make many codes and categories to clarify how students work metacognition.
