Can 'A.I.Teacher' Teach Creativity in the Classroom?-Analysis of Creativity,Teaching Expertise,Teacher Motivation and Creative Teaching Behaviors of Elementary School Teachers in Korea

The purpose of this study is to research the level of creative teacher competences of elementary school teachers in Korea. We investigated how different teacher's creative competences are by gender and years of teaching career. In addition,we examined the structural relationship among teacher creativity, teaching expertise, teacher motivation, and creative teaching behaviors of elementary school teachers in Korea. The subjects of this study were 153 Korean elementary school teachers in Seoul metropolitan area. The survey asked respondents' competency levels in 4 areas including 'teacher creativity','teaching expertise','creative teaching behaviors','teacher motivation'.T-test and ANOVA were conducted to compare group differences by gender and years of teaching career. We also investigated structural relationships among the variables using AMOS.The partial results are as follows.First, among different variables,Korean elementary teachers showed the highest level of competencies in 'teaching expertise' followed by 'creative teaching behavior'.On the other hand, the Korean teachers' motivational level to cultivate their own 'creatively teaching competency' was the lowest.Second, there was no significant difference in creative teacher competences according to gender, but there was a significant difference in the level of competencies between teachers with 3-5 years of teaching career and teachers with 11-15 years and more.Interestingly, teachers with 3-5 years of teaching career showed the lowest level of 'creative teaching behavior' among all groups.Third, teacher creativity and teacher motivation had a significant impact on teaching expertise, and in turn, teaching expertise had a significant effect on creative teaching behaviors. In addition, teacher motivation had an indirect effect on creative teaching behaviors through teaching expertise.Based on the results of this study,we will discuss implications for teachers' professional development issues in Korea. The results of this study will help us to understand what and how 'human teachers' perform to foster students' creativity and this will have further implication for 'A.I.teacher' research.
