UX Design of Augmented Reality for the Elementary School Students
The purpose of this study is to examine how Augmented Reality(AR)platform, avatar design, and additional materials should be presented in AR learning contents based on smartphone application for elementary school students. The AR technology can provide rich multimedia based information that fit the cognitive development stage for elementary school students. For this advantage, recently many applications for elementary school students are being developed, but the user interface of some applications is not likely to be designed for the target users. Therefore,to develop a proper application for elementary school students what interface elements should be considered for them is need to know. For this study,we developed an ARbased learning contents application about 11 environment terms. For analyzing the user experience of AR application, three components are considered; AR platform, avatar design, and additional materials. And three times of user experience assessment were conducted. In the first and second assessment, the evaluators were university students and graduated students. And the final assessment was conducted with five end users,5th-grade elementary school children. As modifying the low scored factors,AR-based application was revised. As a result,we identify that the portrait version is more convenient to use than the landscape version. The size of an avatar should be considered based on the height at which children can lift their smartphone.
