The Salt Range a Geo-Park of Pakistan
Salt Range comprises 6 gorges, well exposed geological, paleontological and easily accessible.These propensities make attraction for the researcher which is unique in the world regarding age diagnostic;Cambrian Trilobites, Permian Brachiopods,Lower Triassic Ammonites, Lower Tertiary Larger Foraminifera and Upper Tertiary and Quaternary Vertebrates generate paleogeographic.Khewra Gorge (Eastern Salt Range): Along the road between Choa Saiden Shah and Kussuk fort the Pre-Cambrian evaporitic facies and Cambrian clastic sequence with thick carbonate facies in the upper part is exposed.Nilawahn Gorge (Central and Western Salt Range): The Permian to Early Eocene alternating carbonate and clastic sequence and Miocene to recent molasses are well exposed at Nurpur.Nammal Gorge (near Mianwali);Chichali Gorge (near Kala Bagh);Lumshiwal Nala at Makarwal and Zaluch Gorge.All these Salt Range gorges are full of such wonderful sites for geologists and are precisely called as a unique field museum of Natural History in the world and a possible Geo-Park of Pakistan.
