Effect of Temperature on the Simultaneous Calcination and Sulfation of Limestone

The effect of temperature on the simultaneous calcination and sulfation of limestone was studied in horizontal tubular furnace, and the sequential calcination and sulfation of limestone was taken as a control. The results showed that the calcium utilization rate of limestone in the simultaneous calcination and sulfation was much lower than that in the sequential calcination and sulfation. The rate-controlling step in the simultaneous calcination and sulfation at 650 ℃ was the calcination of limestone.Although the calcination of limestone in N2 was relatively easy at 750 ℃, the calcination in the simultaneous calcination and sulfation was difficult to happen due to the carbonation reaction of CaO, leading to little CaSO4 formed. The calcium utilization rate of limestone in the simultaneous calcination and sulfation at 850 ℃ and 950 ℃ were 43.58% and 28.81%, respectively The products in the simultaneous calcination and sulfation included CaO and CaSOa.This may be due to the rapid blockage of pores by CaSO4 at high temperature, which made the reaction enter the stage of diffusion controlling. The other possible reason was the influence of CaO sintering on sulfur fixation characteristics.
