THREE-DIMENSIONAL PASSIVE LOCALIZATION METHOD FOR UNDERWATER TARGET USING REGULAR TRIANGULAR ARRAY

Localization is one of the main functions for sonar and radar.Underwater target passive localization is realized by estimating the time-delays of the targets noise using sensors array.Since the underwater acoustic channel is spread in both time and Doppler due to time-varying multipath propagation, the estimation error is dramatically increased in the underwater acoustic channel. To improve the localization precision in such channel, a regular triangular array is used in this paper.Firstly, a time-delay estimation algorithm based on the regular triangular array is introduced. Then we analyze the influence of the multipath channel to the estimated time-delay.Finally, utilizing the oscillating phase of the cross spectrum function in the multipath channel, targets depth can be obtained, and the three-dimensional localization is achieved.Simulation result validates the effectiveness of the proposed method.
