GIANT ACTUATION STRAIN OVER 0.5% IN PERIODICALLY ORTHOGONAL POLED PZT CERAMICS AND MULTILAYER ACTUATORS VIA REVERSIBLE DOMAIN SWITCHING
In this work, a special designed multilayer actuator based on periodically orthogonal polarized (POP) PZT ceramics, which can generate uniform giant actuation strain, is proposed.Testing results show that the output strain of laminated six-layer actuator is above 0.5% under 2kV/mm, which is about 3.5 times of that of the conventional PZT ceramic under the same driving field. The output strain varies from 0.5% to 0.53% along the length direction of the six-layer actuator, which is much more uniform than that from 0.35% to 0.59% in the single-layer POP PZT..Furthermore, the large uniform actuation strain is very stable and varied little after 20k cycles of operation. The low driving field, giant and uniform strain characteristics of this POP PZT based multilayer actuator have great potentials in the industrial actuation field where large electroactuation is desired.
