A Summary of Sustainable Concrete Technology in Last Three Decades

  In this paper, sustainable concrete technology developed in my laboratory last 30 years is introduced.The categories are classified as follows: structural assessment, repair and strengthening, sustainable concrete members and code and specification.For structural assessment, structural health monitoring technology was introduced including the field loading test and remote monitoring with various sensors.In order to prolong the sustainability of concrete structures, the repair and strengthening techniques were developed by using fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) and non-organic cementitious material.Sustainable concrete members were developed such as a smart glass FRP bar reinforced concrete, recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) concrete, waste glass power concrete members.In order to make sure the sustainable concrete technology widely used, the appropriate code and specification should be developed and distributed to the concrete engineer.There are some of recent specifications for highway design, concrete structure including ISO registered, and FRP reinforced concrete structure.The efforts above must be the important boundary of the sustainable concrete technology in future.
