Application of Quality Evaluation of Porous Concrete by RI Method to On-site Construction and Research on Effective Measuring Range

  Porous concrete is most frequently used for water purification, paving, and cultivation of plants.It is also known as an eco-material, and it could be widely used in many other fields in the future.So it is important that how to measure the porosity and strength of porous concrete without damage or micro damage.In the previous study, the authors have proposed the evaluation method to estimate the strength from the porosity calculated using the RI densitometer (RI instrument) as a strength control method of porous concrete.In this study, the radiation source is set as two different depths (0mm, 150mm), and it aimed to estimate the porosity and strength of fresh porous concrete and hardened porous concrete on-site by the data of RI method accumulated in laboratory experiments so far.As the results, values of estimated porosity by RI method are close between fresh and hardened porous concrete.From the on-site results, the RI estimated porosity and strength with the deep depth of the radiation source are close to the porosity of the core specimen as same the laboratory test.Then, the RI method could be applied to the porous concrete constructed on site has been improved.This study also used porous concrete with 25% porosity and resin to research the effective width range of RI measurement.The results showed that the effective width range of the RI measurement is from the source to the detector to gamma ray detector.
