Influence of Concrete Curing on Surface Quality and Deicing Salt Scaling Resistance of Concrete
Recently years on the road in cold region of Japan, the deicing salt has been spreading for traveling safety of car.The heavy spreading of deicing salt was induced the acceleration of frost damage of the cover concrete, the steel bar corrosion and the cracks which is expansion of alkali-silica reaction of aggregates.The cover concrete possesses a function as a protective layer against the deterioration caused by environmental attack such as chloride, freezing and thawing action, drying action.When these deteriorations will become excessive, it will be significantly affect the performances of concrete.On the other side, the curing of concrete is very important to promote the hydration of cement, and to attain the quality of surface and the durability of concrete structures.In this study, firstly, the verification of the importance of the additional curing method and the verification of the effect of permeability formwork on the quality of surface concrete, by the survey of actual structures on the viewpoint of air permeability, was done.These surveyed structures were constructed in cold region and its being usage in there.From the result of this survey, it was confirmed to improve the surface quality of concrete due to conduct the additional curing.And it was confirmed that the surface air permeability coefficient was decreased with the increase of curing period included the additional curing period.In the case of curing period was greater than 14days, there was the less variation of surface air permeability coefficient and it became within a certain range.Moreover, by using the permeability formwork, the surface air permeability coefficient was decreased.Especially, using the permeability formwork was effective for the concrete that have great amount of bleeding.Secondly, the influence of curing condition on surface quality and the durability of hardened concrete was examined by based on laboratory test.From the result of this examination, it was found that the scaling amount was less with that the surface air permeability was low (it means the quality of surface concrete is well), regardless of curing temperature, curing method and curing period.Therefore, it was important for producing the durable concrete to ensure the quality of cover concrete due to devise the curing method (condition) at construction of concrete.
