Study on Frost Resistance of Fly Ash and Blast Furnace Slag Concrete with Steam Curing

This research was to investigate the frost-resistance of different kinds of concrete with steam curing.Concrete was cured in steam and then tested by RILEM CDF-test as well as corrosion monitoring. It was found that blast furnace slag concrete shows the weakest resistance against the surface scaling, while high early Portland cement concrete and fly ash concrete preserve good resistance after 56 cycles of the freezing and thawing cycles.Surface spalling was not related to the internal damage as well as the penetration of chloride ions.Fly ash concrete and blast furnace slag concretes shows adequate resistance against chloride penetration. In addition, the half-cell potential method was used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the steel bars embedded in three different types of concrete. After 196 days exposure to NaCl solution no corrosion occurred in the steel bars.
