The Mechanical Behavior of Predrilled-Hole Concrete Micro-Pile Supporting the Approach Slab in Semi-Integral Abutment Jointless Bridges
As for the concrete micro-pile, its diameter is less than 300-mm and slenderness ratio is more than 30.It can be used to support the approach slab in Semi-Integral Abutment Jointless Bridges (SIAJBs), which can improve SIAJBs seismic performance and horizontal deformation capacity. The thermal expansion and contraction will occur in the girder under the daily and seasonal temperature variation, which leads to large internal forces and deformations of girder and then transfers to the concrete micropiles of approach slabs. Thus the predrilled-hole concrete micro-piles can be used to improve mechanical behavior of SIAJBs.This paper focuses on monotonic loading tests on 6 predrilled-hole concrete micro-piles with various depths, diameters, and stuffing material densities of predrilled-hole.These parameters were analyzed to evaluate the effect on force-displacement curves, lateral displacements and bending moments of concrete micro-piles.The testing results indicate that predrilled-hole micro-piles with different variations have a little effect on the critical bearing capacity (elastic stage), lateral displacements, and bending moments during the late loading stage, but a significant effect on the limit bearing capacity (plastic stage), and bending moments during the preceding loading stage.
