Experimental Study on Masonry Strut Columns with Ultra-High Performance Mortar under Eccentric Compression
The bearing capacity and failure models of masoury strut columns with ultra high performance mortar (UHPM) under eccentric compression are studied.Masonry column with UHPM (UMC in short) were tested, comparing with masonry short columns with ordinary mortar (MC in short).Test results show that the behaviours and the failure modes of the two kind masonry columns subjected to eccentric compressions are similar, but the vertical cracking load and failure load of UMC are about 1.50 times of those of MC.The strain of the UMC is much smaller than that of MC under the same load, because in the former the transverse deformation of brick is restrained by the UHPM.Based on the test results, a formula to calculate the reduction factor of eccentricity ratio to ultimate load of UMC strut column under eccentric compression is proposed.
