Experimental Study on the Influence of Pile Length to the Pile-Soil Interaction
The Technical Code for Building Pile Foundations tends to ignore the effect of pile length variations, which is not reasonable for Integral Abutment Jointless Bridges (IAJB).In order to identify the effect by the variations of pile length of RC piles, a reciprocating low-cycle pseudo-static test was conducted. The mechanism of interaction of pile-soil was discussed by subjected reversing displacement-loads, embedded strain gauges and soil pressure cells, especially by designed an innovative method for measuring the displacements of piles inside soil. The testing results indicate that the pile length has a certain degree influence on the failure mode, crack distribution and internal force redistribution of RC pile. The basic mode of pile-soil interaction and the pile displacement distribution which is toward zero scope are changed with the level of the top displacement of the pile.Meanwhile, longer pile has a better ability of deformation, deeper damage location in a suitable range, and thus the pile-soil interaction is more effectively. At the same time, with a bigger displacement load, the influence of pile length on equivalent stiffness will also increase. The longer the pile, the bigger the equivalent stiffness of pilesoil interaction.
