Shear Performance of RC Footing Beams Using Welded Stirrups with Main Bar
We have developed reinforced concrete footing beams using welded connections between main reinforcing bars and stirrups. To use the welded connections for footing beams in which double-layered main bars are arranged, the cap-tie system to confine the upper main bars has been proposed. The previous study conducted by authors concluded that the welded stirrups and cap-tie system can increase the deformation capacity of beams and improve bond performance of main bars.To investigate the structural performance of footing beams with the proposed system, eight beam specimens are tested. The test variables are welding position, number of welded main bars, and cap-tie shape. The antisymmetrical cyclic loading test is conducted for the all specimens that are designed to fail by shear before yielding of main bars.Test results show that the shear capacities are like to those of ordinary RC specimens, and the welding of main bars influences the decrement of load degradation in large deformation.
