Experimental Study of Web-Buckling Behavior of Concrete In-filled Steel Composite Girder

As the Limit State Design (LSD) was introduced for steel structures, some unclearness has been issued especially for steel composite structures. There are many of different types of steel composite girders developed in Korea but their buckling load criteria are not clearly described in design manuals.Even not many research sources are available regarding the buckling issues of the recently developed steel composite girders. This is partially because of the unclearness in calculating the effective height of those steel composite girders. This study considered a newly developed steel composite girder that was in-filled with concrete onto the top flange element.Experimental tests were conducted to investigate the buckling behavior of the developed concrete in-filled steel composite girders and compared with the behavior of a I-type plate girder that was designed following the steel bridge design manual in Korea.
