Experimental Investigation on Flexural Performance of Steel Reinforced Geopolymer Concrete One-Way Slabs
In this study, slag and fly ash based geopolymer concrete was used as an alternative to replace the ordinary Portland cement (OPC) concrete in precast concrete one-way slab.A total of twelve reinforced concrete (RC) one-way slab specimens were fabricated and their out-of-plane flexural performance was evaluated through four points loading test.Six of them were made of the geopolymer concrete (i.e., GCS specimens) and the parameters investigated consisted of the concrete strength (30, 40 and 50 MPa) and reinforcement ratio (0.82% and 1.20%).The other six specimens were the OPC concrete counterparts (i.e., OCS specimens). The load vs.mid-span deflection relationships, crack patterns, failure modes and load-strain relationships of all specimens were studied and compared in detail. The tested slag and fly ash based geopolymer concrete demonstrated its potential to replace the OPC concrete in the application of precast construction, and the GCS specimens exhibited similar flexural performance with the OCS specimens, regarding the strength, crack pattern, failure mode and the loadstrain relationship.
