Effect of Steel Fibers on the Failure Mode of UHPC Beam
In order to study the effect of steel fiber content on the failure mode of UHPC beams, four UHPC short beams (a shear span ratio of 1.2) with steel fiber content of 0%, 1%, 2% and 3%, respectively, are tested.Test results show that all the four specimens have three stages (elastic, cracking and the failure phased) in the whole loading process. But their failure modes are not the same, which are influenced by the steel fiber content of the UHPC.As the fiber content increased from 0% to 3%, the failure mode of the specimens changed from shear in L1 (0%) and L2 (1%), to shear-flexure in L3 (2%), to flexure in L4 (3%).The flexural and shear capacity of the beams are estimated theoretically. With increasing fiber volume, the flexural bearing capacity in creases slowly than the shear bearing capacity. There is an intersection point of the steel fiber content, for beams with a fiber content smaller than it, the beam may failure by shear force, and for beams with a fiber content larger than it, the beam may failure by bending moment;while for beams with a fiber content near it, the beam may failure by shear-flexural failure mode.
