Trial-design Study on Integral Abutment Bridge with UHPC H-piles
Material deterioration was one of the primary challenges to the service life extending and long-term maintenance cost savings.Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) with ultra-high compressive strength and excellent durability has been successfully and widely applied to superstructures, especially bridge girders and decks. However, foundation and geotechnical engineering structures have gained relatively little attention in comparison. In this study, UHPC H-shaped piles is proposed to replace steel H-shaped piles and reinforced concrete piles. The trial design of integral abutment bridge employing such a new kind pile is performed.By establishing MIDAS/Civil finite element model, combined with relevant codes to analysis between the trial design bridge and the original bridge from the aspects of sectional structure, engineering quantity, structure basic performance and economy. Results of this study will provide reference of UHPC pile for bridge design.
