Study on Evaluation Method for Prestress Force Change of PC Girder Based on Surface Strain Distribution

  When evaluating the soundness of prestressed concrete (PC) bridges that have been used for a long period, the residual prestress is a significant factor.This study investigated a method of evaluating the residual prestress of a PC girder non-destructively and easily before crack occurrence.Load tests were conducted on the PC girder with different initial prestress values, and its surface strain was measured.As a result, when the initial prestress was reduced, the increase in surface strain with increasing load became large on the lower edge side of the PC girder.Also, for the load at which the increase ratio of lower edge strain changed, it was verified that the load was almost identical when the bending moment inside the cross section was zero.
