Electrical load characteristics assessment of a discharge rod plasma generator
A discharge rod plasma generator (DRPG) is designed and employed for the electrothermal-chemical (ETC) launcher to improve the ignition and combustion of solid propellants in the chamber. An assessment of the DRPG with both static test and dynamic test is introduced to analyze and discuss the electrical load characteristics of the DRPG.Results show that this DRPG is a resistive load which has low inductance. It has the stable and constant electrical characteristics in both static test and dynamic test. And the static test result under the condition of low test frequency is closer to the active dynamic resistance property. The average equivalent resistance of plasma produced by the DRPG is decreased with the increasing of the discharge voltage. It shows that the average equivalent resistance of plasma produced by the DRPG is nearly 18.9mΩ when the discharging voltage is nearly 8.0kV.And the plasma resistance is about 3.5Ω at the moment of the plasma arc breaking down. This assessment can detect the electrical load characteristics of DRPG effectively. And tests results can provide the data support for designing the matching pulse power supply and ETC launching.
