Analysis of minor-caliber railgun arc-suppression methods
During the launching process of the electromagnetic railgun, the generation of muzzle arc has a great influence on the speed and attitude of the armature.In order to determine the electrical parameters of the muzzle arc-suppression device, this paper first establishes an interior ballistic model of minor-caliber electromagnetic railguns based on Demenikand Kushnerarc resistance model, and then sets the resistance parameters of the arc-suppression device according to the calculated minimum arc resistance.Then, according to the interior ballistic model of railgun under the active and passive arc-suppression methods, the differences of the performance of interior ballistic are analyzed.Taking a 20mm railgun as an example, the calculation shows that under the premise of the same structure parameters of power supply and railgun, the armature velocity under the passive arc-suppression method decreases only about 1.86%, and the power utilization efficiency decreases about 0.19%.The end time of discharging is rather close.Therefore, apassive arc-suppression method should be preferred to adopt in a minor-caliber railgun.
