Reversible superhydrophobicity-superhydrophilicity transition of HMX/ZnO composites

  The wettability between explosive particles and liquid binder directly affect the interfacial mechanical c performances of cast polymer-bonded explosives (PBX).In this work, HMX/ZnO composites with reversible wettability were prepared by electrostatic self-assembly method.The presence of the ZnO coating on the surface of HMX was demonstrated by SEM images and XRD patterns.TG spectra showed that the mass ratio of ZnO coating in the composites was about 1.49%, and DSC behavior indicated that the ZnO coating seemed to improve the stability of the HMX particles.The water contact angles of treated HMX/ZnO composites was 138.4°, which nearly achieved superhydrophobicity condition, and turned to 0° after ultraviolet radiation for 180min.More interesting the water contact angles reversed to 138.3°after dark storage for 7d.Such special wettability will greatly extend the applications of HMX to many kinds of explosive.
