Numerical investigations on a cold launch with different composition ratio of propellant mixtures in the ram accelerator
The ram accelerator is a new propulsion technology for accelerating projectile to velocity over 2km/s by using chemical energy of propellant gaseous mixture.The numerical simulation of the shock wave structures of a cold shot and the influence of different composition ratio of the propellant mixtures in the ram accelerator launch tube is studied in this paper.A comprehensive comparison has been conducted in reference to the prediction of flow characteristics and shock wave structures, the density distributions, the temperature distributions and pressure distributions.The drag coefficient is also calculated to compare.The complex wave can be predicted clearly.And it is shown that increasing the fill pressureis benefit to raise the maximum temperature and strengthen the wave structure to promote the combustion efficiency.So it can be used as a guide and reference for the cold launch experiments of the ram accelerator.
