Mechanism study of thermal decomposition of poly (3-difluoroaminomethyl-3-methyloxetane) (PDFAMO)

A novel high-energy binder was prepared by homopolymerization of 3-difluoroaminomethyl-3-methyloxetane (DFAMO).Thermal decomposition studies of poly (DFAMO) were carried out with the help of thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to understand its decomposition behavior and kinetics, and possible mechanisms. The results indicate that the thermal decomposition exhibits a two-stage process: the first one mainly due to the incomplete two-step HF loss of difluoroamino group with the activation energy at 110-120 kJ/mol, and the second stage is the pyrolysis of remaining monofluoroimino groups and polymer backbone. And the main degradation products of the polymer were HCN, H2O, CHF3, CF4 CH3+, NH3, HF, N2O, NO2, H2CO, NO and CO2, as determined by TG-FTIR-MS.
