Reason analysis on low strength of motors in hydraulic burst test

The burst pressure of some samples during the hydraulic test for a batch of motors were found lower than the design requirement leading to early damage on the motors.in order to solve this problem,a failure tree was set up, the test conditions were examined, the configuration of damaged samples was analyzed, the manufacturing process and production conditions were investigated, and the material and dimension of the bottom covers and size of the shell thread hole were re-inspected and tested. The analytical tests and investigation results indicate that early damage in motors is caused by low strength in the bottom covers and the newly purchased test equipment was defective. The raw material in the bottom covers is not consistent in strength, which leads to low overall strength. Moreover, the raw material passes strength inspection in sampling tests, but it is difficult to guarantee the quality of the whole batch. The influence of heating process during surface treatment cannot be ignored. The failure analysis of this batch of motors demonstrates that for important aluminum bearing parts, it is necessary to strictly control the acceptance tests for raw materials, to improve manufacturing and inspection equipment, and to enhance the management process making it fit with the requirements of process reliability so as to ensure the reliability in both the acceptance process of raw materials and the manufacturing process of components.
