Dynamic mechanical behavior and energy releasing characteristics of Al-Ni-W reactive materials
In this paper, dynamic mechanical behavior of Al-Ni-W reactive material was investigated by split Hopkinson pressure bar.The results show that Al-Ni-W reactive material has no effect of strain hardening and strain rate hardening under dynamic compression.Fracture cracks initially occur at the interface of Al/Ni and Al/W.The energy release characteristics of Al-Ni-W reactive material were analyzed by measuring the quasi-static pressure generated by the impact reaction at different speeds of Al-Ni-W reactive material. The experimental results show that speed threshold of the reaction caused by the reactive fragment impacting on the steel anvil is not more than 713m/s.And chemical energy and quasi-static pressure generated by reaction of the reactive material have a linear relationship with the impact velocity. When reactive fragment impacts steel anvil at the speed of 1176m/s, the energy released by reaction reaches 2.23kJ/g, which is higher than energy released from the intermetallic reaction, indicating that oxidation reactions of metals take place with oxygen.
