Dynamic mechanical behavior and microstructure response characteristics of impact-resistant steel with high strength, high toughness and low density

In recent years, people have paid much attention to low density steel, whose density is more than 10% lower than that of traditional steel, and has the characteristics of high strength, high toughness and significant strain hardening. The low density steel has great potential application value in many fields. The dynamic mechanical behavior and microstructure response characteristics of high strength, high toughness and low density steel under high speed impact were studied. The results show that based on the theory of atomic dilution, the density of the low density steel prepared by reasonably adjusting austenite stability is less than 7.0g/cm3.The dynamic yield strength of the steel is more sensitive to the stress rate. When the strain rate is 4000s-1, the dynamic yield strength of the experimental steel reaches above 1800MPa, and dynamic strengthening effect is remarkable. The reclaimed samples from high speed impact experiment were observed with SEM and TEM.It is found that the original austenite structure exhibits obvious transformation induced plasticity (TRIP),twinning induced plasticity (TWIP) and microband induced plasticity (MBIP).This mechanism can improve its ability to resist high speed impact.
