Numerical simulation of shaped charge igniting thick-cased-explosives covered by soil
The process of the forming of a metal jet and its penetrating and igniting into a cased-PBX covered by soil was simulated by LS-DYNA.The material parameters were calibrated according to field test results. The jet formation process was analysed. The propagation of pressure wave and detonation wave in the cased-PBX covered by soil with different thickness was analysed, and the threshold thickness of soil to ignite the PBX was found to be 42mm and the velocity threshold is 1170m/s.The velocity threshold is close to the calculated value according to Held criterion.Combined the theoretical and simulation methods, it was found that the velocity decrease was mainly caused by the interface effect, which accounts for 39% to 42% of the decreased velocity, and the velocity decrease caused by the interface is insensitive to the thickness of soil. Therefore, to effectively ignite the cased-explosive covered by soil, it is necessary to increase the jet velocity or the diameter of the shaped charge.
