An engineering calculation method for the velocity of multiple explosively formed penetrators
In order to project multiple explosively formed penetrators (MEFP) in more directions (e.g.3D space) than conventional MEFP warheads and further to improve the damage efficiency of suspension projectiles with MEFP warheads, a new MEFP warhead was developed. An analytical calculation model was presented based on the law of energy conservation to solve the final velocity of MEFP.It is assumed that the process ends at the time when the whole liners have melted, and the deformation energy consumed by the liners are equal to their melt energy. The obtained analytical results are compared with the numerical simulation results, with maximum error of less than 7.6%,demonstrating the applicability of this formula in engineering computation.
