High density reactive alloy projectiles penetration behavior

This investigation describes and analyzes the penetration effects of Q235 steel plates normally impacted by vacuum and high temperature furnace sintered W-Zr-Hf reactive alloy material projectiles. In the experiments, the reactive alloy material W-7r-Hf projectile with density 11.45g/cm3 and diameter 9.5mm impacted 4/6/8/10/12mm Q235 steel plates driven by 12.7mm ballistic gun.Though the high speed photography obtained the energy release behavior before and after the Q235 steel plate, certified that this projectiles energy consumption is very little before the target.Using AUTODYN software simulated the penetration behavior of series quality projectiles impact different thickness Q235 plate.Combining the simulation results and experiment results obtained the limit velocity of W-Zr-Hf projectile. As the result show, this projectile have perfect penetration ability and low energy consumption before the target.
