Two-stage irregular projectile penetration resistance analysis

  In order to improve the penetrating ability of theearth penetration weapons (EPW),based on dynamic cavity expansion, the derivation of penetration resistance formula for the projectile with two-stage irregular nose is conducted with the variable of projectilenose shape factor.Then, the variation of the factor of the projectileswith different nose shapesandtheogive-nose projectile with equal warhead lengthwith the ratio of diameters ξ of the two-stage warhead is compared.Finally, it is assumed that the pre-penetratedcavity can weakens the penetration resistance,and it is verified by numerical simulation that ξ ≈ 0.6 is the optimal value.In the case where the traditional method cannot explain the experimental results, a consistent conclusion is obtained through reasonable hypothesis, which can provide reference for the theoretical analysis of penetration resistance and the optimization design of the irregular projectile.
