Numerical simulation about the influence of the penetrating targets on the projectiles stress environment
Under the high speed penetration condition, the record data of the accelerometer and the viability of the projectile in the penetration test show that the different targets (for example, steel targets, concrete targets, etc.) have a great influence on the stress condition of the projectile. The actual projectile is simplified as a sharp projectile model, and the half-sine impact with the same amplitude (100MPa) and different duration (29~347μs) are applied to the head of the projectile. The simulation results show that the acceleration peak of the middle and end of the projectile both become bigger while the duration of the impact is shorter. The experimental results also show that when the target is a multi-layer steel target, the peak value of the record acceleration is bigger compared the record acceleration when the target is a multi-layer concrete target. The simulation and test results both show that the force condition of the projectile is worse when the target is a steel target.
