The penetration analysis of pre-composited rod penetrator
For the improvement of penetration ability of homogeneous long rod falling into a bottleneck, the new pre-composited rod combined with high density tungsten alloy and high hardness tungsten carbide was designed.The new rod can farm a sharp nose shape in the steady penetration stage by using different properties of different materials to improve the penetration ability of long rod.The comparison experiment and numerical simulation of pre-composited rod and tungsten alloy homogeneous rod with the same geometry penetrating into semi-infinite thick steel target were conducted.The simulation result is consistent with the experiment.Both the experiment and simulation result indicated that the pre-composited rod can improve the penetration ability.The penetration law of pre-composited rod with different configurations penetrating into semi-infinite steel target at different speed segments was analyzed.The change law of the penetration depth with different diameters and lengths of tungsten carbide rod was obtained.The optimized matching structure at each impact velocity was gained.The conclusions are helpful for the design of new long rod kinetic energy weapons.
