Experimental investigation on the propagation mode of two-phase rotating detonation wave
Being a new novel detonation-based engine, the rotating detonation engine (RDE) has now received extensive attention worldwide. In order to achieve the practical application, liquid hydrocarbon fuel is more attractive. However, the propagation control of two-phase rotation detonation wave is challenging. The unstable propagation mode will deteriorate the engine performance. This paper presents the experimental research on the propagation characteristics of two-phase rotating detonation wave on a liquid-fueled rotating detonation engine.Gasoline and oxygen-enriched air are used as fuel and oxidizer.Dynamic pressure transducers and ion probes are used to monitor the detonation propagation process. The results indicate that the single-wave propagation mode of two-phase rotating detonation wave is obtained and the propagation frequency is about 2400 Hz.The rising edge of the pressure curve and the falling edge of the voltage curve are synchronous and dominant frequencies of two curves are in agreement with each other.Compared with the pressure transducer, the ion probe can fairly register the detonation propagation characteristics in long-range RDE test.
