Improving the Flame Retardance of Poly (Lactic Acid) with a Novel DOPO-Ca-MMT Nanocompound

  The composites of the PLA with DOPO, Ca-MMT and DOPO-Ca-MMT nanocompound were prepared.Their structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM).The flame retardance of these PLA composites were studied through limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning and cone calorimeter tests.The results showed that in the composite of PLA/DOPO-Ca-MMT nanocompound MMT were more intercalated morphologies compared with in the composites of PLA/Ca-MMT and PLA/(DOPO+Ca-MMT mixture).The PLA/DOPO-Ca-MMT nanocomposite exhibited higher LOI value and lower peak of heat release rate (p-HRR) than the PLA/(DOPO+Ca-MMT).
