Novel Flame Retardant Phosphor-aminobenzothiazole for Poly(lactic acid) Filament Application
High flammability with severe melt dripping limits the application of biodegradable polyesters in many areas. Here we report facile synthesis and application of a superefficient flame retardant (FR) for poly(lactic acid) (PLA), phosphor-aminobenzothiazole (P-ABZT).The synthesized P-ABZT was blended with PLA and its flame retardant properties were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and cone calorimeter. The PLA/P-ABZT presented lower onset decomposition temperature with higher char residue with the increasing FR content.Significant reductions were achieved in PHRR (~30%), THR (~ 37%), COP (~ 67) and CO2P (~31%) at 1 wt% FR loading. These results proved P-ABZT as a very efficient FR for PLA.
