An Efficient Multifunctional Modifier for Epoxy Resin towards Enhancing Mechanical Properties and High Flame Retardance
The inherently high flammability and brittleness of the epoxy resins restricts their further applications in many areas where both high flame resistance and elevated specific strength and toughness are required.Various modifiers have been developed to improve their fire resistance and toughness, however, the other main properties, such as glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal stability are always deteriorated concomitantly.To obtain high performance epoxy resin, PBHDDP was prepared and utilized as a highly effective multifunctional modifier.When it was added to epoxy, simultaneous improvements in toughness, strength and high flame retardance of the modified thermosets can be achieved with a small amount of single component, which suggests PBHDDP has great industrialized potential.
