Effect of Expandable Graphite-Based Mat on Flame Retardancy of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Epoxy Composites for Aerospace Application
In this study, two types of flame retardant composites: CFRP@MatEG-GF and CFRP@MatEG-GF-MW were prepared via compression moulding, with graphite-based mat attached on the surface. The flame retardancy has been investigated, and the results showed that the limiting oxygen index (LOI) value increased from 28.2% to 35.1% and 39.3% for CFRP@MatEG-GF and CFRP@MatEG-GF-MW, respectively. The cone calorimeter results showed the peak of heat release rate (PHRR) of two groups reduced to 146.40 kW/m2 and 16.08 kW/m2, respectively.
