Synergistic Barrier Effect of Triazinetrione-Alkylphosphinate and Phosphaphenanthrene Derivatives in Epoxy Thermosets
A flame retardant named triazinetrione-alkylphosphinate (TAHP) was applied into diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) cured by 4,4-diamino-diphenylmethane (DDM) with 10-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-10-H-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (ODOPB).The flammability is detected using limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning test and cone calorimeter test. The introduction of 1%TAHP and 3%ODOPB endowed the epoxy thermoset with a LOI value of 34.4%, UL94 V-0 rating, and the reduced HRR value.Raman spectra showed that 1%TAHP/3%ODOPB promotes the formation of better protective chars during combustion.
