A Green Approach to Improving the Strength and Flame Retardancy of Poly(vinyl alcohol)/Clay Aerogels
Highly robust and flame-retardant X-crosslinked poly (vinyl alcohol)/montmorillonite (PVA/MMT) aerogels were fabricated through a simple and green method.The mechanical strength of the crosslinked aerogel could be as high as 35.3 MPa, relatively high for flame-retardant aerogels, due to the incorporation of biomass X.The fire behaviour analysis of the aerogels confirmed the significant improvements of limiting oxygen index (LOI) to a value of 43.1% and achievement of UL-94 V-0 rating.
