Application of Sulfur/Silicon Composite Flame Retardant on Nylon 6 Fabric

  In this paper, sulfur-contained thiourea and silicon-contained silica sol were complexed and applied onto nylon 6 fabric by pad-dry-cure technology.The results showed that the combination of thiourea and silica sol enhances the flame retardancy of nylon 6 fabric with an LOI value of 28.2% and the molten drop of the nylon 6 fabric disappear.Moreover, a decrease of the peak of the heat release rate by 25% compared to untreated nylon 6 fabric.It was proposed that complex of sulfur/silicon-contained compound has synergistic flame retardancy effect for nylon fabric.
