Flame-Retardant Behavior of Typical Adding-Type Phohosphates and Expandable Graphite in Polyurethane Foams
The effect of three typical phosphates, dimethyl phosphate (DP), (5-ethyl-2-methyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan-5-yl) methyl dimethyl phosphonate P-oxide (EMD) and dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) were respectively applied in the flame retardant rigid polyurethane foam(RPUF) with expandable graphite (EG), then their flame retardant behaviours and mechanisms were compared. The results show that all three kinds of phosphates can exert excellent flame retardant effect in gas phase by releasing free radicals PO and PO2, which can effectively quench the flammable active free radicals from the matrix.DMMP has the best flame retardant effect due to its high phosphorus content and high flame retardant efficiency in gas and condensed phase.
